The Lone Acting Nominees

Episode 36 - The Hurricane (with David Turgay)

Episode Summary

On this week's episode, I'm joined once again by friend of the show David Turgay to talk about Denzel Washington's nomination as wrongfully imprisoned prizefighter Rubin "Hurricane" Carter in Norman Jewison's THE HURRICANE, a movie that was seen as an early frontrunner but was marred by controversy (after all, what better way to make a movie about racial injustice than to focus on three white Canadians?) Join us as we also break down the Academy's love of boxing movies, whatever the hell racist cartoon character Dan Hedaya is playing here, and the odd awards season of 1999.
