The Lone Acting Nominees

Episode 2 - Marathon Man (with Eliza)

Episode Summary

This week, I'm joined by Jackson DeStefano to discuss John Schlesinger's paranoid thriller Marathon Man (1976), which earned its only Oscar nomination for Sir Laurence Olivier's supporting performance as Dr. Christian Szell, a Nazi dentist and torturer who comes out of hiding to retrieve a briefcase of diamonds from a safety deposit box in New York. Topics include watching this movie the same week as a dentist appointment, Olivier's surprising BAFTA omission, and the Golden Globe that Truman Capote lost to Arnold Schwarzenegger (no, seriously).
